Estimation score calculator

Keep score at the table without the argument: enter the estimates and the tricks, and the calculator works out the Caller, With, Risk, Dash Call, Over/Under and Sa'aydeh — with the same Estimation rules as the Koutchina app.

Pick the length and name the players, then enter each round: the Caller and any Dash Call, the estimates, who estimated last, and the tricks each player took. The calculator handles With, Dash, Risk, Over/Under, the only winner and loser, Sa'aydeh and the ×2 / ×4 multiplier. The match is saved in this browser only.

Round 1 of 5

No Dash Call and no auction: the highest estimate is the Caller — on a tie, pick whoever estimated first.

How a round is scored

Every round plays all 13 tricks, then each player’s tricks are checked against their estimate. Take exactly your estimate and you make it: 10 plus the tricks you took — 3 estimated and 3 taken scores 13, and 0 estimated with nothing taken scores 10.

Take more or fewer and you miss — and lose only the difference: 3 estimated and 5 taken is −2, 4 estimated and 3 taken is −1. There is no flat penalty for a miss, just the difference and the extras below. Each player’s sum is then multiplied by the round’s multiplier, normally ×1.

A round’s points need not add up to zero, and totals can sink well below zero.

Bonuses and penalties

These stack on top of the base — added when you make your estimate, taken away when you miss:

  • Caller: ±10. In a call round it is the owner of the winning call, whose number is their estimate; in a fixed round, the highest estimate — on a tie, whoever estimated first.
  • With: ±10 for anyone whose estimate equals the Caller’s number — it scores exactly like the Caller.
  • Only winner / only loser: +10 if you are the only player to make your estimate, −10 if you are the only one to miss.
  • Risk: ±10 per level for the last player to estimate — Risk ±10, Double Risk ±20, Triple Risk ±30.
  • Dash Call: a flat +25 in an Over round or +33 in an Under round if its player takes no trick, −25 or −33 if they take even one — instead of the base. It can still be the only winner or loser (±10), but never Caller, With or Risk.
  • Dash: an estimate of 0 made in the estimating turn. It scores like any estimate — +10 made, minus the tricks taken when missed.
  • Sa'aydeh: if all four miss, nobody scores and the next round counts ×2; a second one in a row makes the following round ×4, the most it can be. The multiplier is back to ×1 after any round in which at least one player makes their estimate.

Over, Under and Risk

The last player to estimate may not pick the number that brings the four estimates to exactly 13, so every round is either Over — more than 13, not enough tricks for everyone — or Under — fewer than 13, so spare tricks must land on someone. Either way at least one player misses. It also sets the Dash Call’s value: 25 Over, 33 Under.

The last player to estimate carries the Risk, set by how far the total lands from 13:

  • 1 away (a total of 12 or 14): no Risk.
  • 2–3 away (10–11 or 15–16): Risk, ±10.
  • 4–5 away (8–9 or 17–18): Double Risk, ±20.
  • 6 or more away (7 or less, 19 or more): Triple Risk, ±30.

A worked round

A call round at ×1: one player Dash Calls; another calls 7♠; the next estimates 2; the last estimates 1 — a total of 10, Under, 3 away from 13, so the last player is on Risk.

  • The Caller takes 7: +27 (10 + 7, +10 Caller).
  • The player on 2 takes 4: −2.
  • The Dash Caller takes one trick: −33 (an Under round).
  • The last player takes 1: +21 (10 + 1, +10 Risk).

Two made and two missed, so there is no only winner or only loser. Had this round followed a Sa'aydeh, everything would double: +54, −4, −66 and +42.

Match lengths and the winner

Koutchina plays Estimation in three lengths; the length changes only the rounds — the scoring is the same:

  • Micro (the default): 5 fixed rounds — round 1 NT, 2 ♠, 3 ♥, 4 ♦, 5 ♣ — with no Dash Call and no auction.
  • Mini: 10 rounds — 5 call rounds, then the five fixed rounds (6 NT to 10 ♣).
  • Full: 18 rounds — 13 call rounds, then the five fixed rounds (14 NT to 18 ♣).

In a fixed round, a player who estimates 8 or more may change the trump with a Super Call — that changes the play, not the scoring. After the last round the highest total wins; tied players share the place, with no extra round.

Estimation scoring FAQ

In a call round, before the auction, a player may promise to take no tricks at all. Made, it scores +25 in an Over round or +33 in an Under round; take a single trick and it costs −25 or −33. Fixed rounds have no Dash Call, and at most two players per round can be on zero, counting Dash Calls and Dashes together.

10 plus the tricks taken: 3 estimated and 3 taken scores 13. Add +10 for the Caller or a With, +10 if you are the only player to make it, and +10 per Risk level if you estimated last. The sum is then multiplied by the round’s multiplier — ×2 or ×4 after a Sa'aydeh.

With is an estimate equal to the Caller’s number, and it scores like the Caller: an extra +10 when made, −10 when missed. Risk is carried by the last player to estimate when the estimates land away from 13: 2–3 away is Risk (±10), 4–5 is Double Risk (±20), 6 or more is Triple Risk (±30).

It depends on the length: Micro is 5 fixed rounds and is Koutchina’s default; Mini is 10 rounds — 5 call rounds, then 5 fixed; Full is 18 — 13 call rounds, then 5 fixed. The fixed rounds’ trumps run in order: NT, ♠, ♥, ♦, ♣.

Whenever the Caller does not take exactly the Call, fewer tricks or more. The Caller then loses the difference, −10 for being the Caller, and another −10 if nobody else misses: a Caller on 5 who takes 3 scores −12. After a Sa'aydeh the loss is multiplied like any score.
